Mount Vernon Drywall Co. is a ceiling-focused drywall studio serving Mount Vernon and lower Westchester, and the ceiling is the one plane most crews rush. A ceiling under modern LED light is unforgiving. Get it dead flat and nobody in the room notices it at all, which is exactly the point. Leave one ripple, one proud seam, one wavy old patch, and everybody sitting under it sees the reflection catch, over and over, every time the lights are on. The whole game is flatness. We hang 5/8-inch sag-resistant board, tape and mud in stages, and skim the entire plane to a full Level 5 so the light rolls across it without snagging on a single thing.

Most of our work here comes down to two things: old ceilings and water. The older two-families and pre-war apartments around Mount Vernon, and the classic homes just over the line in Bronxville and Pelham, have plaster ceilings that have been settling for eighty or ninety years, usually with popcorn texture somebody sprayed on decades ago to hide the cracks. We wet-scrape that texture, re-secure or replace whatever's let go, and skim it smooth. The other half of our week is leaks from the unit above. A bathroom or a radiator upstairs lets go, and the ceiling below stains, bubbles, and starts to sag. We cut out the saturated board, dry the cavity, stain-block, and rebuild so the repair reads as one continuous plane. On a stained but structurally sound ceiling, skimming beats tearing the whole thing out nine times out of ten. It's cheaper, cleaner, and once it's flat under the light you'd never know anything happened up there.
